John M. Weddington Jr., M.S., P.E., CFEI
Founder & Principal Engineer
Professional Summary
John Weddington is an electrical and controls systems engineer based in Orangeburg, SC, delivering expert design, execution, and forensic analysis services to clients across the Southeast. With a strong specialization in industrial control systems—including Emerson DeltaV and a wide variety of PLCs—John provides comprehensive control system architecture, instrumentation specification, and precision loop tuning. He also conducts rigorous evaluations of electrical and control systems, offering expert failure analysis, scope of damage assessments, repair cost evaluations, and thorough code compliance reviews for residential, commercial, and industrial facilities.
Prior to founding Weddington Engineering and Consulting LLC, John spent 15 years as an electrical and control systems engineer across the chemical, mining, pharmaceutical, and pulp and paper industries. During this time, he served as a subject matter expert for Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) and Layers of Protection Analyses (LOPA). He regularly utilized Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to investigate complex equipment failures and chemical exposure incidents, focusing heavily on industrial controls (PLC/DCS) for batch, continuous, and discrete processes, as well as their supporting electrical infrastructure.
John holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from The Citadel (2011). While working full-time in the industry, he earned his Master of Science in Electrical Engineering in 2017, where his graduate research focused on the mathematical modeling, fault diagnosis, and prognosis of Lithium-ion batteries.
When he is not actively engineering solutions, John enjoys spending time along the Edisto River with his wife, raising their four daughters. Together, they are active in local music and theater productions, roast their own coffee, and try their hands at gardening.
